The “New” Face of PR

With increased use of the Internet, blogs, social networking sites and video sharing, “New Media” or “Social Media” has changed the face of pubic relations. New media is not just a passing fad, it is a shift in the way we communicate. Web-based communication tools are becoming an important source for news and information for various audiences. Companies today need to ask themselves: “Are we making the most of all of the public relations tools that are available?” Today's successful PR campaigns effectively blend traditional PR with new media. Save Our State Parks Campaign

After the announcement of the Governor's budget proposal to close 48 state parks and reduce lifeguard staffing on 16 state beaches, the California State Parks Foundation (CSPF) immediately launched the “Save Our State Parks” Campaign (SOS Campaign) as a statewide, grassroots media effort to keep California's parks open. CSPF sought out Perry Communications Group (PCG) to conduct media relations and organize event planning for its SOS Campaign.

As part of this campaign, PCG organized various events including a rally to launch the campaign at the Capitol, a historic march from Sutter's Fort to the Capitol where parks supporters dressed in period attire and marched in opposition to the Governor's proposed park closures, and a press conference for the National Trust for Historic Preservation's announcement that the California State Parks system was listed as one of America's 11 Most Endangered Places. Perry Communications Tells the Effects of Medi-Cal Cuts

If you've read a newspaper lately, you've seen our work. Perry Communications Group (PCG) was contacted by the California Pharmacists Association (CPhA) to develop a media strategy to help combat the 10 percent Medi-Cal provider cuts that took effect July 1, 2008. The goal was to demonstrate the adverse affect these cuts would have on pharmacists and the patients they serve. Essentially, these cuts would impact pharmacy from two separate angles. Not only would pharmacists endure a 10 percent cut on their dispensing fee, but more importantly, they would take a 10 percent hit on the actual cost of the medication, which equated to pharmacists selling medications at a loss. This is particularly detrimental to the independent/small-business pharmacists.

The cuts would essentially force pharmacists to make very tough decisions such as not accepting new Medi-Cal beneficiaries, turning away patients, cutting hours and employees or closing their doors altogether.  MORE
